2010-2011 Virginia Tech Men's Basketball Schedule... What We Know So Far...

Greetings, Hokies!! The weekend is almost over in the DMV... finally, a few days without massive humidity... sure, it was in the 90's, but it was bearable... you can feel that cool breeze in the evening... you listen to the sound of the crickets... and you can feel that autumn (and that must mean that Virginia Tech football) is in the air :)

But I'm not here to talk football... the Hokie Guru is here to talk men's basketball. Specifically, the 2010-2011 season... here's what we know about the schedule so far:

1.) On November 16, 2010, Virginia Tech will take on Kansas State University in ESPN's 24 hour college basketball marathon. You can see more about that here. The game is at 4 PM EST. A big game for the Hokies, which will match two really great backcourts... I'm a homer for Malcolm Delaney and Dorenzo Hudson, of course.

2.) From November 25 - 28, 2010, Virginia Tech will take part in the 76 Classic in Anahiem, CA. The Hokies take on Cal State-Northridge in the first game on November 25 at 2 PM EST. Other teams that are part of the tournment are DePaul, Murray State, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, UNLV, and Stanford. This is a three day tourney with a bracket type format, so the Hokies should get a few good games here in Cali... would be cool if we took on mid-major Murray State... or Mountain West Conference foe UNLV... or our BCS brethren in Stanford or Oklahoma State. This tournament will help us get a chance to improve the non-conference schedule.

3.) On December 1, 2010, Virginia Tech will take on Purdue in the Atlantic Coast Conference - Big 10 Challenge. The game will be at 7:30 PM EST on ESPN. This is a big game for the Hokies because Purdue is rated in the top five in many preseason college basketball polls.

4.) [August 25, 2010 Edit] On December 12, 2010, Virginia Tech will take on Penn State in the Cassell.

4.) On December 18, 2010, Virginia Tech will take on Mississippi State IN THE BAHAMAS.

5.) Today, we heard on Twitter that Virginia Tech will play Virginia at home IN THE MIDDLE OF DECEMBER. GREAT NEWS FOR HOKIE FANS.

If you can't tell, the Hokie Guru is pretty fired up :) GO HOKIES!!!

August 2010 - Roundball Club Update from Coach Seth Greenberg

Below you will see the most recent Roundball Club update from Coach Seth Greenberg.

Dear Roundball Club,

It is hard to believe that the summer has come to an end and we are preparing for our player’s return to campus. The summer has been productive for our team. They have approached their school work, conditioning and skill development with intensity and a purpose. Our freshmen have made the transition to college life and are learning to work. They are both talented and have great attitudes.

James Johnson has done a superb job setting the tone for our staff. His energy, personality and ownership in our program has made a huge difference over the past three years.

We are finishing up our last week of camp. Dennis Wolff assumed the role of our camp director as well as assistant to the head coach and has used his time on campus to get to know our players.

Adrian Autry’s new position as full time assistant coach has enabled him to be on the road. He has a tremendous work ethic and is an outstanding evaluator. I have no doubt he will do a terrific job for our program.

John Richardson is getting acclimated to our program. He is working hard and will be moving his family to Blacksburg this August. John is a high energy person with a wealth of experience at every level. His network is solid and his relationships strong!

As many of you are aware, Allan Chaney has had another episode and he will be seeing a specialist August 16th. We are still optimistic about Allan‘s eventual return but there is no timetable as we are dealing with a viral infection. Dave Dietter, our trainer, has done a great job with our medical staff and the doctors at UVA Medical Center. I sincerely appreciate his commitment to our players’ well-being.

I could not be more pleased with the work of Dave Jackson. He is a true Hokie. His love for everything Virginia Tech makes him the perfect fit for our program. He connects with our players and they believe in him.

I am looking to secure a date for our Welcome Back get together. I will send the details in my next letter. Enjoy the remainder of the summer!

GO HOKIES!

Seth Greenberg
